Weeks after the avoidable land dispute mayhem that was visited on Obinomba community and Umusume communities in Umukwata and Obiaruku clans, both in Ukwuani Local Council of Delta State, His Royal Majesty, Enyi Friday Abaja, has stepped in with an olive branch amid promises of rebuilding burnt houses, compensate family of late victim and permanently demarcate communal boundaries.

The approaches by the monarch, who also in 2007 spent over N100m to reconstruct destroyed houses and compensate 36 families that lost dear ones to the Amai/Ezionum crisis, in the same local council, is already receiving expected cooperation from combatants in both communities, who have lived peacefully for generations, before the recent face-off.

The monarch, who praised Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his proactive steps in stemming spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, expressed his desire for a lasting peace, insisting that all men of goodwill from both communities should participate in ensuring that such ugly situation never happens again.

While agreeing that peace without justice is like postponing the evil day, Enyi Abaja confirmed that the demarcation of the boundaries is on course.

“The most important aspect is to make peace, through demarcation acceptable to both sides, with a signpost properly erected to avoid future squabbles. This is because if we make peace halfway, then there is no peace. We are for permanent peace, which is what we are working on. And by God’s grace, it will be achieved soon.”
